Interesting News From October 1973

Dan Edwards sent in this toy news article from 1973 concerning the sales of these new "Dawn Sized" dolls of Superman and Batman. These dolls would continue to sell for the next ten years and are probably the biggest reason that the Megomuseum exists today.

Mego of the Day: Type 2 Robin

Mego of the Day for Friday is the ever popular Robin, whom despite his longevity, never gets eough attention for my liking. Pop into the Mego forum and share with us on Mego Robin.
Did you have Robin as a kid? See it? Know of it? Is it in your collection now? On your want list? Do we need pictures of it's packaging in the Museum? Have you ever used it in a custom? Have you customized the character? Why wouldn't this make it into your collection? Did you make funny caption pictures with it? Post pics, tell stories, say whatever, it's mego of the day.

Heroes World Ad: Mego Black Hole

A fun ad in our Heroes world gallery today, this time it's a wonderfully illustrated piece for the Mego Black Hole 12" and 3 3/4" figures.
What's best about this image is how sneaky they depict Ernest Borgnine's character. Look at those shifty eyes, you know he's up to no good. DUN-DUN-DUN!
If this has left craving more Mego Black Hole, cruise over to our Black Hole Gallery for shots of loose, carded and even prototype items from Mego.
Mike Rogers unveiled his latest custom figure, Detective Dan McGarrett from Hawaii Five-0, which I think is gangbusters. Mike also has the Custom Spotlight this week with his Dracula figure, he's on a roll. Check out all the latest creations at Custom Mego.

World's Greatest Toys : The Mego Museum Review

It's a bit difficult to review a book like "World's Greatest Toys" without showing a level of bias. In fact, I almost didn't do a review at all for fear of sounding like a shill but the book itself is an achievement and thus deserves acknowledgement.
The first thing you read in WGT is the acknowledgements, most of the names are familiar to me, I "see" them almost everyday. These people donated pictures, scans or in many cases transported their actual items across state lines, so WGT author Benjamin Holcomb could use his fantastic photographic skills on them.
People helped because they wanted this book to happen, it's the best example of what a collector community should be. A person has a vision and people pitch in. Actually holding this book made me happy, it's here, it happened. CLICK HERE TO READ THE COMPLETE ARTICLE
