Just a friendly reminder that today is the first day that you can order the initial figure from the Mattel "Retro-Action: DC Super Heroes" line (fomerly known as World's Greatest Superheroes). Eight inch Superheroes with real cloth costumes, it's a good day but stop and smell the roses, get your order in at mattycollector.com now, before they sell out!

Retro-Action Green Arrow: Up Close

Another up close shot of the upcoming Retro Action line, this time it's Oliver Queen himself! The Green Arrow!

The original Mego Sculpt has been altered here, it's not a reproduction but a nice alteration of the original. Amazing how the eye paint changes the whole aesthetic.

Green Arrow will be availble December 23rd (that's tomorrow people!) at MattyCollector.com

Many thanks to EMCE and Mattel for this early peek at this line, it was a wonderful present!

Retro-Action Sinestro: Up Close

Thanks to good people at Mattel and EMCE we have another early look at the Mattel Retro Action DC Super Heroes line, this time it's 8" Sinestro head sculpt again in the rather fitting "Mugshot" style.

As with Lex there is a "Challenge of the Superfriends" vibe going on here and it's just one thing about this figure that makes me happy, the other is that the appearance of Sinestro also clears up one of Mego's bigger omissions, an 8" Green Lantern.

Sinestro will also be in "Wave One" of the Retro-Action Superheroes this Spring.

Looking at this thing, it still feels a little surreal at the moment. 2010 will truly be the year of the Mego Scale.

Retro-Action Lex Luthor: Up Close

Thanks to good people at Mattel and EMCE we have an early look at the Mattel Retro Action DC Super Heroes 8" Lex Luthor head sculpt in a sort of fitting "Mugshot" style.

I get a little bit of a "Challenge of the Superfriends" vibe from Lex here.

Lex will be in "Wave One" of the Retro-Action Superheroes, the concept that there will be wave 2 and 3 next year makes me giddy. I hope Mattel includes that obscure "Bat-Man" character that I'm fond of.

I didn't know he could do that.

Spring can't come any quicker, stay tuned for more up close and personal shots from this much anticipated toy line.

Them Tiny Dukes

Made some updates the Dukes of Hazzard 3 3/4" Gallery, mostly repairing the glaring omission of the vehicle sets but also adding some detailed shots of the unproduced "Cooter's Garage" playset.

I noticed we don't have a single packaged figure shown, so if you have some and you're handy with a camera email us!

Otherwise click on the ol' General Lee to see the revised Mego Dukes of Hazzard Gallery.

Star Trek TMP Gallery Updated and Revised

Want to feel old? Star Trek the Motion Picture was released 30 years ago last month. While the "human adventure" didn't set the toy aisles ablaze with sales, Mego squeaked some fun toys for Christmas that year and we've completely redesigned our Star Trek: The Motion Picture Gallery.

We've added dozens of new packaging and revised figure shots, along with new images of unproduced prototypes like the Vulcan Shuttle play set.

So Beam Aboard the New Mego Star Trek: The Motion Picture Gallery.

Mattel Delays Green Arrow

But only for a week, this just in from the Matty Collector Facebook Page:

SALE UPDATE! Green Arrow isn't going to arrive at the warehouse in time for the sale tomorrow so he's going to move to our 12/23 sale with Wave 11. All other products are arriving as we speak and will go on sale tomorrow. There might be a day or two delay in shipping as they still need to be sorted out once we receive ...them, but don't worry -- they're coming!
Rats, I made this shiny graphic for tomorrow and everything ... *kicks dirt*

Magnetic Heroes Update

A fabulous update at the MegoMuseum Magna Heroes Gallery today, courtesy of Mark Huackabone we have shots of the proposed American series of cards for the four heroes.

Mego pitched the line using these very samples at Toy Fair 1980 and decided to abandon the line. These rare US cards were produced for display at Toy Fair and are the only known to exist.

Check Them out at the Mego Museum Magna Heroes Gallery.

Monsters, Pirates and Cowboys at MegoLike

These handsome fellas are just part of the new Toy Island Gallery over at Megolike.com.

While the company was in it's infancy, it produced several different lines of 7 inch clothed figures using familiar Mego territory such as Cowboys, Pirates, Monsters (yay!) and themes such as sports and firemen.

It's pretty neat stuff that also turns out to be quite rare, if you have any of these drop us a line!
Check it out at MegoLike.com

WGSH Becomes Retro-Action!

Great Update on Matty Collector.com today, unveiling the revised card art for the Green Arrow Figure. The big change here is the line's name is no longer "World's Greatest SuperHeroes" but "Retro-Action: DC Super Heroes".

This begs the question, what other things does Mattel have planned under this "Retro-Action" banner? It sounds like 2010 will be truly be the year of the Megohead.

Retro-Action Green Arrow will be available Tuesday December 15th 2009 only at MattyCollector.com

Hasbro Announces Relaunch of The Micronauts

Hasbro announced today a plan to bring back the classic "Micronauts" toyline with the cooperation of it's original creator Takara Toys.

Micronauts was first launched in 1977 by Mego Corporation and was a worldwide success.
It is not know if this will feature new characters or classics such as Baron Karza but with Hasbro also currently holding the rights to Marvel Comics, it may be possible that figures of Commander Raan, Bug and Marionette are in our future....

Holy Burned Toast Batman!

A new Mego Memory, here John Fiorella recieves his second Mego Batman, what happen to the first one you ask? John created a deathtrap for him in the family toaster.

John explains his motives for doing it "The adam west show filled my brain with all sorts of traps for Bats to get out of and the toaster wasn't one of them. I wrapped him in a straight jacket of cheese slices and in he went." he adds "The outcome... well, let's just say Robin had to go solo for a few months."

Thanks for the great picture and story John, if you have a Mego Memory for our gallery, drop us a line!

Re-Mego of the Day: Raan

While Raan was just a one episode story character from the first season of Space:1999, Classic TV Toys made the first 8" likeness of British Horror film legend Peter Cushing. Let the custom Van Helsings and Baron Frankensteins commence!

Re-Mego of the Day: Buzzcut

While CTVT concentrated mainly on licensed properties, they did manage to squeeze out interesting items such as the Mad Clowns, Buzzcut was a more adult orientated offering from the company.

Re-Mego of the Day: Graveyard Zombie

It's October after all and the spotlight should go on a few of the more ghoulish things produced in the last few years, like the graveyard Zombie from EMCE's "Night of the Living Dead" line of figures. Not a license Mego would have jumped on back in the day but one that makes sense now.

Re-Mego of the Day: Chachi

wa wa wa During Classic TV Toys tenure, the company released a staggering amount of characters and variations, filling gaps in our collections that some of us had never thought about. One such figure was Chachi Arcola, which not only satisfied Mego collectors but the ever growing legion of fans of the movie "Zapped!".

What is your favorite Mego line? I’m a huge fan of The Worlds Greatest Superheroes. There the best hands down. Their colors and sculpts are fantastic. Ever since I was growing up I had a thing for Superheroes. It all started with my sister. She gave me a bunch of her old comics and ever since then I’ve been hooked on Superheroes. I also really dig Star Trek. I loved watching the reruns growing up. That has to be my second all time favorite MEGO line.

Happiest Mego Memory? It has to be the time that my Mom had brought home the Star Trek bridge playset with the crew for me. That’s one memory I’ll never forget. We still talk about it to this day.

AHI Monsters

Any other hobbies, collections? As of lately my toy collecting has taken over all of my free time. My favorite lines to collect are MEGOs, ahi, Star Wars, SMDM, Gashapon and Simpsons. My other interests are Martial Arts, collecting stickers and non-sport trading cards and watching movies made by the Shaw Bros. They have some of the all time greatest Kung-Fu flicks.

AHI Monsters

Any words of wisdom for beginning collectors? Patience is the key. There’s always another toy just right around the corner. Also have fun.
